Today, on International Men’s Day, we have the opportunity to pause and reflect on the roles men play in our lives and society. It’s a day to recognize their strength, resilience, and contributions, not only in their personal lives but also in their communities, workplaces, and beyond.
However, let’s be honest- one day to celebrate men is often just for namesake. For the rest of the year, we find ourselves blamed by everyone! our families, our friends, and society at large. We are constantly judged, questioned, and stereotyped, yet rarely celebrated for the challenges we face.
Let me shed some light on a few things that we men experience daily:
We are scared of walking beside a woman because people may think we are following her.
We can’t just look around in public, as people assume we’re checking someone out.
We are judged for being soft, with our manhood constantly questioned.
In today’s world, it often feels like we men are blamed for everything that happens around us, even when we have no part to play in it.
It’s time we start recognizing these everyday struggles, the pressure to conform, and the mental toll of constantly living under a microscope. Men are expected to be tough, unemotional, and always in control. But we’re human too. We have our insecurities, fears, and vulnerabilities.
So, while today we celebrate, let’s not forget that the conversation needs to go beyond a single day. Let’s work toward a world where men are seen for who they truly are, without judgment, without blame. A world where we can be ourselves, express our emotions, and show our true strength in every aspect of life.
Here’s to change, support, and respect not just today, but every day. Happy International Men’s Day!
